WOAK-FM first went on the air as a station with low power, in 1948; it was 
owned by Bernie and Rita Jacobs and several of their relatives.  The 
station at first failed in its efforts with FM classical and the relatives 
bought out Bernie & Rita and changed the calls  to WFMT, which they then 
changed to a pop music format.  Bernie & Rita re-acquired the station in 
December of 1951 and changed it back to classical/ 'fine arts'.
