The years make fuzz around the memories, but there
was an "octal" Studioette and a "sub-mini" that was
a Gatesway contemporary. You would be correct about
the "octal" version, but I'm thinking the latter
shared the M5548 with others of same vintage. They
all needed a mon. amp. and the PS voltages were the
same because the same pre and pgm boards etc were
used.

Main diffs. were in number of studios; mike faders
and preselectors. The later Gates tube stuff - EF86
and forward were not bad for their day and mostly
trouble free. Of course if the mon. amp. tubes died
the muting might never let the speakers work, but
it was a good cue to pop new 6AQ5's in.
