[BC] Public Service Communications

Well, then lets just figure that your friends are not very
radio literate? Perhaps they do not know what kind of
modulation they were using? Most end users could
care less of course, no shame on them.

Digital radios were not in use by NYPD or FDNY
during the towers collapse, at least not including something
strange like someone using a Nextel phone.

FDNY had purchased a number of digital radios, but
the system did not work for a number of reasons, not
all technical, and those radios were NOT IN USE
during 9/11.

Some of the relatives even tried to sue Motorola for
the equipment issues, but that was dropped.

They were using the analog system.

The reasons that have been worked out are primarily the
use of dis-similiar systems, ie, the FD on VHF, the PD
on UHF, other agencies not being able to talk, AND, the
simple fact that ONLY one person can talk at a time on
a frequency. Listen to the tapes! Lots of doubling.
