I think most processing is emotionally driven. I doubt most people listening 
to the radio care much, one way or the other, how it is processed. I think 
many people know crap when they hear it, but cannot describe what they are 
hearing or why they think it sounds bad in the way you and I can.

Given that both FM and IBOC are capable of very good audio performance, the 
determining factor will be how the PDs with hearing at 5 kHz and below, end up 
adjusting the processing. I doubt much thought will be given to its sonic 
abilities but more thought will be given to a perceived competitive sound.
