A few years ago, I had a mixer problem in a Marti STL RX.  It would come and
go.  It seemed to be temperature related.  When the RX would drop out
(squelch) the *mixer* meter reading would change.  Retuning the stage solved
the problem for a few months.  Ultimately, it required replacement of an
aging transistor.
