EMP destroys the base/emitter and/or base/collector junctions of transistors.

Tube equipment is immune.

If the attack was specific to the Clarke belt it would be roughly 23,000
miles up. If that high, terrestrial effect would be somewhat reduced vs.
the effect at 200 miles.
