Well, hello there, Clarence Jones. I ain't heard from you in a coon's age.
Over the years, I worked at 'ORG a couple of times...first time in 1976.
While I certainly must yield to your knowledge of the facts, where I got the
information about that slogan (Watching Orangeburg's Rapid Growth) from, was
a newspaper insert from the Times & Democrat, published when the station
moved out to the Cannon Bridge Road.
Like it has been in so many other cases, that slogan was obviously created
after the fact.
Question...why didn't y'all apply for the 1450 frequency that had been in
Orangeburg, instead of the 1580? Now, I understand that at the time of the
station's construction, 1450 was limited to 250 watts. Shortly thereafter,
however, class IV's were allowed to increase to a kilowatt daytime. I just
always wondered why there was no effort to make the move, especially since
1580 had no pre-sunrise.
I always think about what you did in St. George. Going from 1300/500 watts
to 810/5kw, as well as taking the FM from 95.9/3kw to 107.5/100kw. Now
that's what I call improvement.
