Cheaper, sturdier, more difficult, lasts almost forever. I know places were
joints I made over 40 years ago are still in service today as good as new. :)
Also, you know if the joint is there, it is good. At worst you burn quite
a few holes in the copper strap during the learning process unless it is
at least .049 gauge. Using that and above makes it much more forgiving. I
learned on .020 x 4" ribbon with #10 wire and a few of the really old boys 
would poke fun because I was using bronze rather than welding the copper 
directly using #10 wire for welding rod as some did "back in the day."
