[BC] Transformer conditioning

What I usually do with the ham equipment
is leave the filaments on
for days with no HV. The heat from the
rectifier tubes and the blowing fans
warm up the HV transformer pretty well.
The Johnson Thunderbolt is close to 6KV
end-to-end
on it's plate transformer.

In the past, I've used controlled DC to
heat a large plate transformer.
Caution! Don't pull the DC off of the
winding by disconnection!
The CEMF spike may surprise the power
supply control circuit. And blow it out.

Fifty watts of DC per 100 Lbs. is a good
starting place.
Heat for a week if you have time, not to
exceed 150F on the laminations or so.

A 150W flood lamp operated normally and
pointed at the core helps build heat,
too.
Especially if the transformer is BLACK.

OBTW I have many NIB  120:600 Volt 1KW
Line Transformers. Need some?
Operated backwards and into a FW
doubler, could make nice HV for 813's
GU74 etc.
