Also be sure to check out this page, with info on how to convert a tube
radio (including AA5 sets) to AM Stereo:

Installing a C-Quam decoder on a tube radio not only provides AM Stereo
reception, it also yields a noticeable improvement in audio quality --
bass response, treble response, noise, and distortion are all improved,
compared to what the radio's original circuitry puts out. However,
some tube radios already put out very good sound; with the help of a
graphic equalizer and external audio amp & speaker, my Hallicrafters S-38C
sounds just as great as a GE Superadio III, and the sound from the few
shortwave stations which are transmitting full-bandwidth (10 kHz+) audio,
such as Radio Exterior de Espa?a, is excellent. Sharp notch filters at
5 and 10 kHz are recommended, though, to cut out those pesky carrier
whines & whistles which all hi-fi shortwave radios are plagued with.
